MEETINGS- minutes by Olivia & Christopher
Minutes from the meeting held on 30/10/06 when our new Eco-Guardians attended their first meeting following their appointment at the last meeting.
Mrs Rylance & Mrs Walsh also attended.

It was decided that Year 6 would take the minutes. We also talked about how important recycling was. Plus we discovered that there were some types of Christmas cards that were made of recycled paper! Also that our taps are specially designed to turn themselves off after a limited amount of time. Last time St Paul's was awarded the bronze. This time we are going for silver

SUGGESTIONS -
Tell others about the recycle bins.
Look out for recycled products.
Recycle old uniforms for the school fete.
Report back to class.
Report Eco news for the school newsletter and website.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING:
17/11/06 with Mrs Savage & Mrs Starkie

INTRODUCTION

ECO SCHOOL UPDATE
We have already gained Silver Award and are now going for the Green Flag Award

Initiatives last term included: paper recycling bins in each office and classroom; litter picks in and around the school and community. We will discuss new initiatives at our next meeting.

http://www.eco-schools.org.uk is a website which will tell you all about it along with some games to play.

We want to look after our environment in and around our school.
Some of the things we have done so far:
* Each class have Eco-Guardians to look after their classroom and meet once a term to discuss plans.
* Litter and electricity wastage is looked after by all pupils - but checked by the Eco-Guardians
* The teaching staff also meet to discuss plans for the school.
* After an audit of the school last year we found water wastage could be improved - new pressure taps were installed along with a new mains supply to the school.
* A quiet area behind the garage is planned for the future - with benches and flower beds.
* An Eco display board in the entrance to the school has been prepared.
* A poster competition will be arranged later this term.

A mixed group of pupils and adults meet to discuss environmental action for the school. The group meets a minimum of once a term.  This is displayed on our ECO/School Council board in the school entrance.
Notes are kept of meetings.
Results of group discussions and action to be undertaken are communicated to the rest of the school.

An informal environmental review of the school is carried out.
Results of the review are discussed by the environment group.
Following the review, some activities are planned that will change and improve the environmental performance of the school.

The environmental group decides on some action for the school based on the informal review.
Responsibility for taking forward action is agreed.

The environment group makes a note of progress towards targets,
The group discusses success or otherwise of the action being undertaken.

Environmental issues are covered as part of curriculum work in most year groups across a range of subjects.

The environmental group has a school notice board which gives details of environmental activities being carried out.
The school lets parents know of action being undertaken in some way.
The wider school community learns of the environmental activity going on in the school.
We inform by newsletter and web site as well.

There is an agreement on some environmental statements for the school drawn up by the environmental group Back to top
