Healthy Award Accreditation
Our school will be assessed for Healthy Schools Status on 8th February. Consequently our Open Assembly will move from Wednesday to Thursday on w/c 5/2/07 because the assessors would like to be present at our worship and mix with parents.
Year 1
Mrs Selley will be absent from school for approximately 8 weeks following half-term due to a minor operation. During this time Year 1 will be taught by Miss Matthews who has been covering in Year 3 during Mrs Savage's absence.
Reception
To promote independence when we return after half-term we would ask that reception children are encouraged to walk round to the back of the school on their own for the start of the school day. Our Year 6 monitors will be there to ensure that the children feel safe and secure.
Car Parking
Could all parents please remember that the school car park should be used only in the case of an emergency. We have barely enough space to park staff cars and due to the lack of space and congestion the car park is a very dangerous place for our pupils.
Additionally could we request that parents park their cars thoughtfully. Lately there have been several complaints made to school by local residents who could not access their own property and by the landlords of the Freemasons Arms. It is not appropriate to block the passageway near to the Freemason's and I would urge parents to show a little respect especially considering the Freemason's over the years have donated a substantial amount of money to school.
Headlice (See link below)
Please could all parents check their children's hair for hairlice. As we know this time of year is especially favoured by headlice but regular checks and prompt action with appropriate medicated shampoo can prevent the headlice from spreading

Library
Many thanks to Mrs Cooke, Mrs Evans, Mrs Wallace and Mrs Gibson for volunteering to help with the 'chipping' of our library books. We have now finished this and the computer system is installed, so after half-term we will begin to send library books home. - A big thank-you to FOSPPS, and all the donations we have received, which have enabled us to up-grade our library facilities.

School Council
Last week our School Council met with Gillian Myerscough, a student teacher, to explain to her how the school council works and what role the school council has played leading up to our Healthy Award accreditation. Gillian was very impressed with our pupils and the way they articulated their views.

Y3 Swimming Lessons
Just to remind Year 3 that they will be commencing swimming lessons on Monday 19th February. They will be leaving school at 2.30pm and returning at 4.00pm. The price is £3 which is a contribution to the cost of the coach only, as school pays for the cost of the actual lessons to Wigan Baths. If your child is unable to swim for any reason they will still need to go with the rest of the class due to the lack of an additional member of staff to supervise. and will consequently need to pay for the cost of the coach.
