Healthy Award Accreditation
Our school will be assessed for Healthy Schools Status on 8th February. Consequently our Open Assembly will move from Wednesday to Thursday on w/c 5/2/07 because the assessors would like to be present at our worship and mix with parents.
Healthy Team Meeting
The next meeting for our 'Healthy Team' will be taking place on Tuesday, 30th January.
Lunchtime Supervisor
There will be a vacancy for a lunchtime supervisor in September 2007. Anyone interested should put this in writing, addressed to Mrs Jackson who will then get back to them during the summer term.
Born to be a star
The pupils are very enthusiastically auditioning for 'Born to be a Star' - our talent competition for Key Stage 2. This has been designed and run by our pupils. The joint winners in the year 6 competition were Katie Smith with Tilly (a ventriloquist act) and Chloe Ball and George Kay who were 'Perfect Harmony'. They now go forward to our Grand Final. More information to follow?.
After Schools Club
Girl's Football and Netball are proving to be a great success with many pupils attending. It is very positive to see so many of our younger pupils actively involved in sport.
Many thanks to Ashley's Dad and Zhane's Dad for stepping forward and taking football practice in the absence of Mr Holland. Mr Duncalf (the sports teacher from Hawkley Hall) has now volunteered to take practice on his only spare evening which is Tuesday. - Any Parent volunteers are more than welcome to join in and help
Lunchtime French
Madam Belshaw has some places left in her lunchtime Thursday club which is open to all pupils throughout the school. If you are interested please see Mrs Bibby
Music Tuition
The key board players are enjoying receiving tuition from our new music teacher Mrs Walch. She has 3 spare places for any child in Key Stage 2 who would like to learn how to play the keyboard the price for a shared lesson is £3.50 for 1/2 hour.
A group of pupils in year 6 have been identified for their musical ability on the recorder and are receiving extra input from Mrs Walch on the treble recorder. We look forward to hearing them perform in the near future
Playground News
Last year the School Council asked if we could develop the playground and provide some more exciting play opportunities. I am please to announce that in late February the following will be installed.
1. A dedicated soft-play area for reception and Year 1 with a climbing frame to encourage the development of gross motor skills.
2. A 3 - phase development for the rest of the school incorporating, outside tables for games and quiet time and to double as an outdoor classroom, a basic trim trail to encourage the development of co-ordination and improve fitness, and a living willow arbour to provide some shade for our pupils on sunny days.
Play leaders
I am very pleased that Lauren Dobson from Healthy Schools has been coming into school to train our playleader volunteers in Y5. 12 of our pupils applied and were successful and they will now learn how to play a selection of small games which they will then teach younger children at break and at lunchtime. The playleader course will last until Easter.
