SCHOOL COUNCIL - Travel Plan
The School Council were visited this week by Mr Allen (a former pupil of St Paul?s) who gave a presentation about Wigan Schools? Travel Plans. Some of his main issues were that a quarter of people from the age of 11 are obese. In 11-15 year olds since 1995 obesity has risen from 14% to 24% in boys and from 15% to 26% in girls. He then went on to say that walking is the closest thing to perfect exercise. Walking wakes us up and so we are more alert when we get to school and so can function better! Riding in a car means that you inhale 3 times more exhaust fumes than by walking and the average family spends £300 just on the school run????..
WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK
Walk to School Week commences Monday 16th October.
Everyone will be encouraged to walk to school. If your child usually arrives at school by car then we suggest that you park further away from school and walk for just a short journey. There will be a wristband for those who succeed for the whole of the week.

SPONSORED FOOTBALL
On Wednesday 18th October there will be a 'Sponsored Football Event'. All money raised will go towards School Funds.
BUMBLEBEES
As you can also see from the poster on our back cover Bumblebees will be starting a dance class next term. There are still places left - for enquiries please call Emma & Rachel on 07765328223

DATA COLLECTION
We have had a number of incidents when we have been unable to contact parents due to contact details being out of date. When you receive the data collection sheet that will be sent home, that was completed last time, please make sure it is accurate and up to date. This should then be returned to school.
SCHOOL GOVERNER ELECTIONS
Thanks to all 3 candidates in our recent election of governors. Mrs Elstone and Mr Topham were elected. The voting was very close and so we hope that Mrs Evans will apply again when another vacancy arises.
OPEN DAY
This year Open Day will be on 21st November, nearer to the date we will be offering you a selection of times. Class teachers will be available to discuss with you your child?s progress and to offer comments regarding how you can support your child?s learning at home. All pupils will have completed block assessments in Literacy and Numeracy and at this meeting teachers will talk to you about the levels your child has achieved on these assessments and your child?s progress relative to their end of year targets. I would suggest strongly that you make every effort to attend.
SAMBA
WOWS have supplied our school with samba drums which the children are presently enjoying during music lessons with Mrs Kearsley . All children have the opportunity to use 1 of the instruments provided and are thoroughly enjoying the experience of a carnival atmosphere.
SCHOOL NEWSPAPER
Megan & Jenny along with their team of reporters are still busy producing the ?St Paul?s Express?. This is part of an initiative from WOWS, the cluster group of schools of which we are a member. This will be on sale at the end of half term, with proceeds going to our School Fund.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD ? boxes to be in by 3 November
Once again we have the opportunity to help others less fortunte than ourselves by providing them with a shoe box of gifts. Along with this Newsletter you will find a leaflet with more details.
