17 Mar 2006 - Newsletter 4
HEALTHY SCHOOL STATUS
We intend to apply for the Healthy School accreditation. We think it will be well worth the hard work involved. A parent group will need to be formed from willing volunteers.
In line with this theme children will be having 2 hours of PE per week in future and will need to have their PE kit available.
More information will be given in future Newsletters.
HEALTHY SCHOOL
Our kitchen provides healthy school meals and in order to share this we are organising special 'theme meals' Italian Day: Sharon (our cook) is providing an Italian meal for any children wishing to have school dinners on this day.
St. George?s Day: Will involve a traditional English dinner
Open Evening: Wed 29th March 6pm. We will present our whole school food policy and Sharon will share the healthy choices available in the school meal menus. We will provide suggestions for healthy sandwich boxes and a question and answer opportunity.
ECO SCHOOL
We have already gained the Bronze award for being an Eco-friendly school. We now intend to work towards the Silver award. Initiatives this term include: paper recycling bins in each office and classroom; litter picks in and around the school and community.
YEAR 6 WRITING CLUB
The first of these was on the subject of story writing and was enjoyed by all who attended. The refreshments and free resources were gratefully received. Next week will cover the subject of Letter writing.
YEAR 6 PARENT'S EVENING
Mr. Don-Duncan has volunteered to give a brief presentation on the subject of Ks2 SATs and answer any questions parents may raise, on Wednesday 22nd March (6pm start).
ICT
St. Paul's has a good reputation for producing pupils with high level skills in ICT. This has often been recognised by the Secondary schools. We would like to extend our provision by increasing our ICT hardware in the form of Interactive whiteboards and laptops. This, of course will require a lot of funding.
We would appreciate any ideas on the subject and ask for your support in any fund raising ventures.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our newly established council includes two members from each year group who were voted in place on the council by the rest of the class. They met for the 1st time with our new Headteacher (Mrs. Jackson) and proved to be most successful!
ADULT NUMERACY - ABSOLUTELY FREE !
The first session was well received by the parents who attended. Place Value was the topic for the evening. Next week will be concentrate on the 4 rules of number.
The free crèche facility, provided by the Bumble Bees, was also well attended and the children enjoyed themselves.
