LEAVE OF ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME

Regular school attendance is essential if your child is to maximise their educational opportunities.  Interruptions in school attendance not only affect your child’s education, they make it harder for them to catch up on work missed and can also affect their social life within school.

19 days lost in a school year could = 1 whole grade down in your SATS across all subjects.

Schools have, over recent years, been faced with increasing numbers of request from parents asking to remove their child from school in order to take them on holiday during term time.  In many of these cases, parents and carers mistakenly believe that pupils are automatically allowed 10 days holiday in any one year.  Legislation however states that it is only under special circumstances that the Headteacher MAY consider giving permission for a child to be absent from school up to a maximum of 10 days.  The Local Authority and Wigan Borough schools have recently joined together to sign a common protocol which states NOT AUTHORISING requests for holidays in term time except in ‘special circumstances.  ‘Special circumstances’ do not include cheaper holidays, easier availability etc.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Please ensure that your child is wearing appropriate clothing for school.  We appreciate that parents of Year 6 children may not wish to buy new items of clothing but shoes must be worn in red or black, trousers must be worn and not tracksuit pants.

POLLING DAY..

THURSDAY 1st MAY 2008

Just to remind everyone that school will also be closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday 5th May.

DINNER MONEY

Dinner money is currently £9.00 per week.

Please only send in dinner money on a Friday morning.

If you have more than one child paying for a school lunch send each one into school in a separate named box/tin.

SAINSBURY AND TESCO VOUCHERS

Thankyou to all parents/carers who have so far been donating their vouchers.  This year we hope to be able to purchase some outdoor play equipment for Reception children with the Sainsbury vouchers.  We also hope to purchase software for our new computers with the Tesco vouchers.  Our computers are now up and running and at last we are able to take large groups of children to work in the ICT Suite.

REMINDER

Just to remind everyone that Kelvin will be leaving towards the end of May and if anyone still has money that they would like to donate then please send this into school as soon as possible.
